Original work
X describes eligible work as content you personally create or substantially transform with your own voice, perspective, expertise, reporting, analysis, design, image, video or commentary.
A practical, current guide to X creator monetization: what is changing, how eligibility works, what “qualified impressions” mean, and what creators should prepare before applying.
X monetization is not a single switch. A creator needs the right paid subscription, an eligible account, original content, recent qualifying reach, good standing, and an approved payout setup. Meeting visible thresholds can make an account eligible to apply, but X still reviews the account and controls admission and payouts.
As of September 1, 2026, X is transitioning away from Creator Revenue Sharing. New enrollment into the old program closed on August 7; existing members can continue earning through September 7; and X says rollout for existing Revenue Sharing members to apply to Original Content Rewards begins September 8. This timing matters because old 5-million-impression guidance belongs to the retiring program, while the new program uses a different eligibility model.
X describes eligible work as content you personally create or substantially transform with your own voice, perspective, expertise, reporting, analysis, design, image, video or commentary.
The new program measures qualified impressions from Premium users on the Home Timeline. The official definition includes unique Premium-user impressions where at least half of the post is visible.
Eligibility uses a rolling 90-day window. Old performance eventually drops out, so a single strong month does not permanently solve the requirement.
The account must remain in good standing and continue complying with X rules, monetization standards and program integrity requirements.
Approved creators must use the payout method available for their location and complete identity verification. X currently directs U.S. users toward X Money and non-U.S. users toward Stripe.
Monetization is not “set and forget.” X says participants can be reviewed again and must keep meeting content and conduct requirements.
At the time of this update, X lists: age 18+, a supported location, a Personal or Business account in good standing, an active Premium / Premium+ / Premium Business subscription, at least 500 verified followers, at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the previous 90 days, and active posting of original content. X says impressions on replies are excluded from the 500,000 eligibility requirement.
Older monetization guidance may still mention a 5-million-impression figure. That number belongs to the retiring Creator Revenue Sharing framework; the current Original Content Rewards eligibility page uses a different threshold and a narrower definition of qualifying reach.
Eligibility is not approval. X explicitly says meeting the listed requirements does not guarantee admission.
A raw analytics total can include many kinds of exposure. Original Content Rewards uses a narrower definition. X excludes repeated impressions from the same account on the same post, paid or promoted impressions, artificially generated impressions and fraudulent impressions. That is why “I have enough views” and “I have enough qualified impressions” are not always the same statement.
Replies can still be valuable for discovery, relationships and follower growth, but X’s current eligibility page says impressions on replies are excluded from the 500,000 Home Timeline requirement. A responsible strategy therefore uses replies to build visibility while relying on original Home Timeline posts for qualifying reach.
Re-uploading or reproducing another creator’s work without a meaningful original contribution.
Small edits, filters, speed changes or text overlays that do not materially transform someone else’s work.
Compilations that mainly collect other people’s material without substantial new analysis or framing.
Bots, automated engagement, fraudulent views or tools intended to manipulate recommendation or payout systems.
Content or conduct that violates X rules, monetization standards, copyright requirements or other program terms.
X says content exclusively focused on monetization coaching, monetization discussion or maximizing payouts is not eligible for Original Content Rewards.
No. X states that meeting the eligibility criteria allows you to apply; admission remains subject to review and program rules.
Current Original Content Rewards guidance says impressions on replies are excluded from the eligibility total. Replies can still help discovery and audience development.
That figure belongs to the retiring Creator Revenue Sharing program. The new Original Content Rewards program currently lists 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days.
Original Content Rewards does not currently publish a three-month account-age requirement on its eligibility page. However, other X monetization products such as Creator Subscriptions have separate criteria, so creators should check the specific product they want to use.
No. We can support account preparation, content execution and growth workflows, but X controls eligibility, approval, distribution and payouts.
